The short version: it's free, use it for fun, don't use it to hurt anyone, and don't treat a game's answers as expert advice.

What the site is

Guess My Animal is a free reference and set of games built around the animal guessing game, made and maintained by Nav. There are no accounts and nothing to buy. It's paid for by advertising, as described on the privacy page.

The answers are for a game

The answers are written carefully and corrected when they're wrong, but they're simplified judgement calls made for a guessing game (see How we answer). They are not safety, veterinary, medical, legal or dietary advice. Don't rely on them to decide whether an animal is safe to approach, handle, keep or eat. Pet ownership and eating wild animals are regulated differently around the world, and some animals the site mentions are protected by law.

The site is provided as it is, without any guarantee that it's complete, correct or always available.

Party Mode and Twitch stream mode

When you join a party or guess in a stream, the name you choose (or your Twitch username) and your guesses are shown to everyone in that room. Please don't use names or guesses that are offensive, that impersonate someone, or that include anyone's personal details. The host can end a room at any time, and a room and everything in it is deleted when it ends or within 48 hours. See the privacy page for what's stored.

If you run Twitch stream mode, you're responsible for your stream and for following Twitch's own rules. Connecting your Twitch account only confirms which channel is yours. It asks for no permissions and nothing from it is kept.

Please don't

• Try to break, overload or get around the site's limits, including flooding the report form or party rooms with automated requests.
• Copy the site's hand-written answers wholesale to republish them as your own dataset.
• Use the site for anything illegal.

Other people's content

Animal photos come from Wikimedia Commons and belong to their authors. Each is credited on its page with its licence, and those licences, not these terms, govern reusing them. The one-line summaries are quoted from Wikipedia under its licence and are marked as such. Links to other sites are there for convenience, and those sites have their own terms.

The site's own code can be read on GitHub. Being public isn't the same as being licensed for reuse, so ask first if you'd like to use it.
